Faced with continuing criticism that is increasingly tarnishing the 150-year old company's reputation, Diebold may be preparing to offload its electronic voting unit, say analysts quoted by the Associated Press

I think it is too late. In this citizen's view the Diebold name is already equivalent to crappy electronic voting machines. The only thing I can imagine saving the name is a company, still in the market, doing something really spectacularly awful, many times.

Kleenex, Xerox, Diebold. They're generics. Which one would you want to be responsible for?
