Proposition

The lack of civic participation in the United States of America is a result of government supplied public education in that country. Discuss.

Well, there is an arugment that the increasing teaching of the attitude that the US is not necessarily a great place has something to do with the lack of civic pride. When you are taught from the yougest ages that the US is responsible for numerous terrible actions (killing the Indians, interrment of Japanese, occupation of Cuba and the Phillippenes, etc.) it is more difficult to really want to be a part of supporting that entity.

At the same time students are not taught in a visceral way that our govt is us...to an extent I think that important lesson is being forgotten because the oligarcy maintains power easier if they masses don't care or don't think they can make a difference. Politics is a very participatory sport and you can't really do it casually...and most of our culture is becoming casual about everything.
